We’re delighted to announce that we have been nominated for the social media award at The Drum Marketing Awards, which celebrates the best marketers and campaigns internationally! The Drum Marketing Awards are one of the industry's most sought-after accolades and we’re thrilled that our Boiler Man campaign has once again been recognised for its innovation and creativity.
The awards take place on Wednesday 3rd April and we can’t wait to showcase Boiler Man’s rise to fame and celebrate the marketing team’s hard work on getting “the greatest mascot ever” to where he is today. It seems like only yesterday when Boiler Man went pitch side at West Brom to engage with the club mascot Baggie Bird and the fans. Initially, some fans did wonder what or who Boiler Man was - but through footage and social media posts shared by YOU, he quickly went viral.
In response to Boiler Man’s popularity, within two days we had established designated social media channels and within two weeks he had a website and an e-commerce site selling a range of merchandise including T-shirts, mugs, badges, air fresheners and soft toys.
We have WBA fans and the general public to thank for filming, photographing and posting in their thousands! Celebrities like Dan Walker, host of BBC Breakfast and Football Focus, got involved sharing the posts with his 520,000 Twitter followers. News articles from around the world were published, from New Zealand to Japan. Following his success on social media, he appeared on Sky Sports News, Soccer AM, BBC Breakfast and Channel 4’s Last Leg - which even featured a miniature Boiler Man made especially for the show.
